When an airfield in Yorkshire started building a suite of new hangars to house its collection of classic and vintage aircraft, Wessex Industrial Doors were delighted to be offered the opportunity to work with the team to design, manufacture and install the hangar doors.
The project involved working with the airport team to confirm their exact requirements including specifying the type of doors required and of course the vital measurements. Security, ease of use, durability and aesthetics were top of the list of requirements and together with the team at the airfield, Wessex Industrial Doors developed plans and designs for the new doors.

The airfield has 7 large hangars, requiring six 15m x 5m doors and one 7m x 5m door. Sliding folding shutters were selected for the job as they are the most suitable door for wide openings and also met the requirements of the airfield.
Once specified, the hangar doors were then manufactured in our workshops in Somerset and delivered and installed by our skilled team of engineers and fitters.
The hangars now proudly house a range of vintage fighter aircraft and classic bi-planes - keeping them secure and weather proof whilst providing easy access when required.
Some of the hangars also provide a spacious environment for engineers and enthusiasts to work on restoration projects and also offer housing for visiting planes.
